Known for their accuracy and attention to detail, Aoshima's precision Waterline Series focuses on naval ship models, depicting the ship's structure from the waterline and above. Models in this series are designed to be seen as if floating on the water, highlighting the above-water structure, whilst also making for a more practical and space-efficient display on a flat surface.
Comissioned in June 1939, HMS Jupiter was one of eight British J-class destroyers built for the Royal Navy immediately prior to the Second World War. The J-class (along with the K and N-classes) represented a return to a smaller design of destroyer, with a greater emphasis on torpedoes, following the larger Tribal class that focused more on guns.
Jupiter's most notable service included her time as part of the forces fighting Japan; in January 1942, Jupiter sank the IJN's I-60, a Kaidai-class cruiser submarine, after a ferocious surface engagement. HMS Jupiter was lost after hitting a mine the following month.
Recreate HMS Jupiter with this precision Waterline Series model kit from Aoshima; the ship is presented as she would have appeared later in her career, after her aft torpedo launcher was removed, to make way for an enhanced AA armament.
