A Prototype Aircraft in a Striking Color Scheme!
The US-2 is a search-and-rescue amphibious aircraft developed as the successor to the domestically produced US-1A. Development began in 1996, with the basic design carried over from the US-1A while incorporating a number of improvements, including increased engine power, a pressurized cabin, a computer-controlled fly-by-wire system, and an infrared night-vision system. The aircraft was certified for operational use in 2007.
The US-2 features excellent short takeoff and landing performance on water. Combined with its unique wave-damping system, it is capable of taking off from and landing on the sea in waves up to 3 meters high.
At the time of rollout, the first prototype was painted primarily in red, while the second prototype featured a highly visible blue-based color scheme.
