The Royal Navy Aircraft Carrier Hermes Returns to the 1/700 Water Line Series!
The Royal Navy aircraft carrier Hermes was one of the world's first practical aircraft carriers designed and built from the outset as an aircraft carrier. Construction began in 1918, she was launched in 1919, and commissioned in 1924. Although relatively small, with a displacement of approximately 10,000 tons, Hermes made a significant contribution to the development of carrier aviation and served extensively in the Mediterranean and the Far East.
During World War II, she undertook convoy escort and patrol duties in the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. However, during the Indian Ocean Raid in April 1942, Hermes was attacked and sunk by aircraft from the Imperial Japanese Navy's carrier strike force. As a pioneering vessel in the history of aircraft carrier development, Hermes played an important role in shaping future carrier design and operational doctrine.
This kit accurately recreates Hermes with a simple yet faithful parts layout. A newly designed full-color painting guide has also been included.
